iOS11™ is almost here – what that means for your CropTrak setup

iOS11™ arrives September 19, 2017!
What that means for your CropTrak setup

A few weeks ago we sent out a notice urging you to wait to upgrade your CropTrak iPads to the new iOS11. This email is to suggest that you continue to wait to install that iOS upgrade until the end of your current harvest season.

CropTrak works with iOS11 – CropTrak has been tested with iOS11, and we have not seen any issues to date. So CropTrak is iOS11 compatible, but is not yet an iOS11 version of the product. What does that mean?

An iOS11 Version of CropTrak is Coming – As part of Apple’s developer requirements, we will be creating an update to CropTrak that among other things will allow our app to run natively using iOS11’s 64 bit operating system. We anticipate that this new iOS11 compliant version of CropTrak will be released in January 2018.

Implications for Your iOS Hardware – iOS11’s 64 bit operation system may not be compatible with older iOS devices. As of now, we believe that if your iOS device runs iOS10, it should be able to run iOS11. We recommend that you check your hardware to see if it will be compatible or not. Below is the list of devices that Apple’s Site (scroll down to the bottom of the page) says will support iOS11:

List of iOS11 compatible devices from Apple’s website

If your devices are not able to upgrade to iOS11, we strongly recommend that you upgrade your hardware before the new year. Older devices, while still compatible with iOS11 might show reduced performance. To get the best performance from CropTrak, you may want to consider devices sold by Apple today.

If you choose not upgrade to this new iOS, your iOS devices will still work with older versions of CropTrak for 2018, but as per Apple’s Developer Agreement, we will not be able to support our older versions. So if you find a bug in an older pre-iOS11 version of CropTrak, we will be unable to fix it.

In the Mean Time – If someone on your team accidentally upgrades and experiences issues with CropTrak, please contact our Success Team and we will help you resolve those issues.

As always, check our website CropTrak.com for all the news about CropTrak’s ever growing capabilities and how they can help your organization farm smarter!
